Oil leaking from left side of bike...1995 ZX9R

Appears to be coming from the clutch cylinder. When I removed it, I could not see anywhere for it to be leaking from. I'm not familiar with the motor enough to know where this might be coming from. Does anybody have any clues?

Thx for the help,
Brian

Go here, www.ronayers.com and bring the parts fiche for your bike over to the right at the top of the page. Search through tull you find the shaft and the corresponding seals. If you don't change your oil often things like that happen. I don't know you don't but things like abuse and neglect cause that. Try using some high mileage oil, or seal conditioner oil additive. KEEP IN MIND, THE WROND ADDITIVES CAN MAKE YOUR CLUTCH SLIP!

Most likely you have a seal leaking. This seems to be a common problem as I just changed this seal on my '95 zx7 trackbike about two weeks ago and just noticed yesterday that the same seal just started to leak on my '94 zx9 motor.

I don't know what the technical name of the seal is I call it a clutch rod seal????, but it is the seal that the pushrod goes through. Its about $13.00 from ron ayers.

To change the seal you need to remove the front sprocket and take off the cover behind the sprocket. On the backside of this is another seal that you should just replace while you have it off, that way you don't have to go back in there twice when the second seal decides to fail. I want to say that its also $13 from ron ayers.

I highly doubt that the seal going bad has anything to do with not taking care of the bike, after all your bike is almost ten years old and gaskets and seals are going to wear out over time.

I hope this makes sense, I'm not very good at explaining to others what I mean.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I will take your advice and change both of these seals, assuming I can find them on the fiche at the dealer (Ronayers doesn't have the B2). Haven't had much time to be looking at the bike or working on it, but hopefully soon. I'll post how it goes in case anyone is interested...

Thanks Again,
Brian

At the same time, change out the gear selector seal. There are 3 seals on that plate behind the sprocket......clutch push rod seal, main drive shaft seal, and the gear selector seal. Don't forget to the the gasket for the plate itself. BTW, these seals do go bad quite often.

I had the same problem. What I did was clean the clutch slave cylinder and the back side of the countershaft cover where the pushrod goes through and put a small bead of gasket sealer on both. Problem solved, took less than 1/2 an hour and didn't cost me a penny! And it's been over 8 months without leaking a drop! :waytogo:
