How well does Honda oils compare to other Motorcycle oils. Does any body have any information on this? I'm currntly using Honda GN4 dino oil and thinking about switching to a synthetic blend or a synthetic. So far I have 6000 miles on my 929 with GN4 oil. Have any motorcycle oil test been done to see who is the best?

zhart,
honda oil is good; no doubt about that.. ive been riding now for about 2 yrs and have experimented with several oils on my 929 before i wrecked it... everybody has there prefence and opinions... if you would like mine i prefer MOTUL partial synthetic... that is what i run in my 954 and it runs smooth and shifts smooth...

Gn4 all the way for the break in period at least. I also suggest using GN4 for the first couple of oil changes. Do not run the intervals to 3,000 miles. 2,000 to 2,500 is a good time to change. Then I go with Motul Semi-synthetic. I know oil can be a lot of hype with what they say about power and other things that your bike miraculously finds when you switch to more expensive oils, but if you run Motul, you don't notice a power gain, but you will definitely notice smoother shifting for sure. All Hondas now shift well right out of the box but Motul really makes is a buttery affair. I highly suggest Motul 5100 ester 10w40.

I have used Honda oils in all my Honda machines! I trust that Honda is smart enough to know what their motors need! I was really mad when I took my 919 in for break in service, and the goon that did the work told he stuck Suzuki oil in, "cuz' it's cheaper, and oilz oil". That came from a guy with a green mohawk, and a Packers jersey on at work! Needless to say, I won't be going back there! I say run the Honda oils, ask a real Honda Tech about the synthetic stuff, because I don't understand all that. Good luck!

Yeah all honda does is pay a company like castrol to put their stuff in honda bottle and charge you more for it. Honda brite is made by S100, same stuff. It's just creative marketing, do you think honda really makes there own oil.

No, not at all, I'm sure they are not going to bother with dealing with refineries and the like! What I'm saying is, they know what the best additives and such belong in the oils they put in their machines! I agree with you, they do have someone else put their label on it. If Honda said,"put Suzuki motor oils in your Honda machine", I would like to think that they are not steering people wrong. You can put whatever you want in your motor, and it will probably run fine.

Your right Mirage. But, I dont think Honda oil is all that. There is better and thats what I want. The local Honda shop near my house has Very High prices on everything. I hate paying them. Yesterday I bought a Honda filter and payed $13.oo for the damn thing. Now I have changed over to Mobil 1 and will get a better oil and in the long run save some money. The Honda oil will work and I'm not sayin it wont but, there is a better oil at cheaper prices on the market.
