Most likely he thinks some big 4 stroke seat time is good for his future move to MotoGP. Maybe he can actually do something in World Superbike, he has been absolutely terrible the past 2 years in 250's after that one good year in 2002 when Melandri won the title.

I actually rooted for Fonsi back in 2002 but as the year came to a close, I saw something in him that I didn't like and it has manifested itself since. The guy has riding skill but he doesn't seem to have much heart. He just seems to give up when things aren't going well. I think he will find the going actually tougher in WSBK with so much talent coming back with serious hardware underneath them. I see an NCR 999 being a good bike but well short of what Corse, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and perhaps Kawasaki will be running with top shelf riders.
