After riding my 2000 Busa hard for an entire day in the southern california canyons, my cam chain tensioner broke. Lucky for me it was during my return home on an offramp. However it still did enough damage to the pistons and head for a total upper end replacement and lower end rebuild.
Lesson here is that I was never officially notified of the recall on this part. My bike has about 15,000 miles on it. The early symptom was light knocking noise heard at idle that eventually grew louder. The more slack from a failing tensioner yields a louder chattering noise as total failure draws near.
