Attorney meets the 'jury pool from hell'

Tuesday, January 18, 2005

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AP) -- Defense attorney Leslie Ballin called it the "jury pool from hell."

The group of prospective jurors was summoned to listen to a case of Tennessee trailer park violence.

Right after jury selection began last week, one man got up and left, announcing, "I'm on morphine and I'm higher than a kite."

When the prosecutor asked if anyone had been convicted of a crime, a prospective juror said that he had been arrested and taken to a mental hospital after he almost shot his nephew. He said he was provoked because his nephew just would not come out from under the bed.

Another would-be juror said he had had alcohol problems and was arrested for soliciting sex from an undercover officer. "I should have known something was up," he said. "She had all her teeth."

Another prospect volunteered he probably should not be on the jury: "In my neighborhood, everyone knows that if you get Mr. Ballin (as your lawyer), you're probably guilty." He was not chosen.

The case involved a woman accused of hitting her brother's girlfriend in the face with a brick. Ballin's client was found not guilty.

I want to serve on a jury sometime but if it's for some boring case, I think I'll just say what the guy I put in Bold said to get out of it

I asked for a postponement of my jury duty. I got it and am still waiting to be contacted with my make up date. The postponement was granted two and a half years ago ~

I can only imagine....

I've only been called for jury duty 1 time, didn't get selected. It was a capital murder case, and we had a 22 page "questionaire".... I think the 'Hang em high' comment got me the boot. :rolling:

lmao nelj

They outta let people volunteer every so often, like if you volunteer your name won't be in the pool for potiential jury duty for the next couple years or something. Give people a chance to go when they can instead of taking 'em outta work/school. I would of liked to do Jury Duty over winter break for a couple days, would suck though if you got some really long case.

yeah, probably wouldn't have many volunteers though, only the same weirdos volutneering over and over..

At times I think I should be more civic minded, but then you hear about juries awarding some idiot gobs of cash because he was injured trying to steal a car.... /wwwthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif it would probably just really piss me off to be on a jury.

I wonder? (Hypothetically) If you'd be found in contempt of court if, you as a guy who was obviously not trans-gender showed up dressed in women's clothing>?< You know the type of guy I mean,a big bulky guy with him exposing his big hairy legs wearing pantyhose and carrying a handbag, wearing a flowered dress and big floppy hat :smirk:

Or worse yet show up like this
