Long day at work today. I get home and go for a short ride and by the time I get back from my ride I've forgotten all the stress from work. The phone rings and it's a guy asking for me. A little unusual, I don't get many calls...4 per year on average.
It's a salesman asking if I am Ryan so and so with a Visa card ending in****. After getting very alarmed something was wrong with my credit or ID had been stolen, the salesman on the phone assured me that everything was OK and that since I have been a good standing member with Visa over the past year, they want to send me out a free $100 gas card and a $25 gift certificate to Target.
I'm like "hey cool, free gas for my bike ". After saying how much he likes the name of the street and town where I live, he then asks if he can transfer me over to their shipping dept. to verify my name and address for shipping. Then he recaps the free stuff and that I'll be entered in a discount club for a free trial 30 day membership. Still thinking about the free gas(gotta feed my bike), I'm like OK
I should have hit the breaks there, I mean transfering me to the shipping dept to confirm my address /wwwthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif But I was still thinking about the free $100 in gas and was like "OK "
Now the guy from the suppossed shipping dept. picks up the line saying something about this conversation being recorded. Kinda sounds legit, so I'm like yeah whatever. Then the guy goes on to say that they are also sending out a free issue of both Maxim and Rolling Stone with as part of the free trial membership to the savings club. Now he says there will be a $2.00 shipping and handling fee.
This is when I started to have second thoughts, but was like free gas  so I gave them permission to charge me the 2 bucks to send out the package. Dumb I know, but free gas
Now about 45 mins after speaking to these guys, I think I've been scammed. I mean I'm not worried about the 2 bucks, but if they pull this on a couple of thousand people, it starts to add up :frown: I'm worried none of the free things they promised will arrive and/or it will damn near impossible for me to cancel this free trial membership :frown:
Having to make this post is very embarrasing, I mean I feel like a complete sucka :frown: Someone please give me advise on what my options are in this situation?
I want to call the bank and cancel my card and/or payment of this $2.00 shipping charge, but I'm worried I will not be able to for I did give them permission to send me this stuff on tape :frown:
I hope if I cancel my card, they will not be able to automatically enroll me in this savings club if I am not able to get in touch with them to tell them I am not interested.
I didn't give them any personal information, just confirmed my name, address, and the last 4 digits of my card. all info they allready had.
Please help :808993-banghead:
