"The Speedway has released this info on the condition of the Gobert boys.

Aaron Gobert will be admitted to Halifax with a chest injury, right leg fracture and a closed head injury.

Anthony Gobert is being treated at Halifax for an open neck injury that could possibly be an open clavicle injury."

What? No! We can't stop here! This is bat country!

Anthony can deal with an open clavicle injury. A closed head injury sounds real bad. A very sad day indeed.

I watched the race live, and taped it. I knew something was real bad after they only showed the wreck once. All three announcers were noticably less enthusiastic after that. Then when Bostrom was interviewed about losing power, and not completing the race, he said he really didn't care, he just wanted to make sure everyone was alright.

Maybe this year's speeds have caught up to the safty limits of Daytona.

The crash reminded my of Josh Hayes in the 600 Daytona race in 2000./images/icons/frown.gif The speeds of the 600 is nothing, wait till the Superbikes race on Sunday.

Ya streetman, I saw that bit too. I also found it interesting how eBoz said he wasn't a fan of racing next to concrete armco barriers at close to 180mph. On one hand I dig the drafting and outrageous speeds, but it really becomes a battle of who has the biggest gonads vs. who can brake/turn/accelerate better. Oh well, I guess one race like this per year is enough for me.

All that being said, both the superstock and the 600 race were awesome! I thought Jimmy Moore was toast on the last lap with his bike smokin like that.

While his brother remains in serious condition at Halifax, Anthony Gobert has stated this evening that he intends to ride the Daytona 200.

Aaron Gobert is in stable condition with two collapsed lungs, fractured vertebrae, broken tibia and fibula and a moderate concussion.

Gobert is not experiencing any paralysis and is being kept sedated at Halifax.

And here I was thinking that a "an open neck injury that could possibly be an open clavicle injury" might be prohibitive. Silly me. Go GoShow!!

Good to hear Aaron is stable. I really didn't think that would be the condition they labeled him. Best wishes to him.

It's almost like when the yami tz750's were exploding tires and riders in the 70's then they put in the chicane on the back stretch. You should have seen Romero and Roberts close to 200mph on the back stretch braking(sitting up in the saddle)and their tires comming apart as they entered the East banking. Is it time for another chicane out of four before the strart/finish line?

For those of you who saw the race it was a disturbing thing to watch that crash.

From the description of the injuries it sounds like Aaron was the one up near the wall who was apparently run over by two different bikes.

I know those of us who ride sportbikes are usually tough mentally and physically but hope each one of you will say a prayer for Aaron as his injuries could be career threatening.

Here's to hoping that we don't see anything else like this in the 200 on Sunday - last years race had a couple of horrifying crashes too - one causing Scott Russell's retirement from competitive road racing this week.
