Funny story. Last night I am riding my 96 Kawa ZX-6R around Charleston, South Carolina and the bike cuts off. Long story short. I ran out of gas. But I only had 100-110 miles on that tank of gas.

How many miles should I be getting on a tank of gas? My tank is 4.8 gal.

I have a D and D slip on on the bike and a K and N filter (OEM type). And when it stopped I couldn't even get reserve to kick in. What's the deal. I'm a new rider so any info is appreciated.

That doesn't sound right. Pull the tank and check for a kinked hose or plugged feeder from the bottom of the tank.

Re: Gas mileage

I get about 130 before the reserve light goes on on my F4. Tank holds 4.5 gallons including 0.8 in reserve. That's with high RPM riding. You should get at least that with the bigger tank.

Re: Gas mileage

I ride a 2000 ZX6R and it depends MAINLY on how you are riding. If you are running hard up in the 9/10 thousand + RPM range you are going to piss through gas. You will get max 120 a tank. If you ride her easy and soft you will probably see 140-150....depends on riding style, but 90 is a little low. Fill up at a different gas station that worked for me...sometimes you can get more gas in. It's more important to know your mileage than how much per tank. Fill up to a point, run 50 miles and then fill up, see how much of the tank you have used.

Good luck....

Re: Gas mileage

more than likely you were runnin on reserve then switched it to the main. try doing it reversed. sucks when that happens doesn it? i pushed my bike 2 miles to a friends house to rob gas from his dad haha.

the tripmeter is the best way to avoid this crap.

another thing. my gas mileage on the roadtrip that it ook was somewhat sh!tty....turns out i had a completely trashed rear wheel bearing. the extra friction kicked the crap outta my gas mileage. just follow the advice in this thread and you'll be set.
