A couple questions from a total motorcycle novice...

What are some of the symptoms of a bad fuel pump, or one that is going bad?
Can a bike run without the fuel pump working at 100%?

i've never had a pump go bad on a bike. But i did have one go bad in my car and it wouldn't run at all. What are the problems you are having. I'm guessing that if it goes bad it just stops working period.

Yes my motorcycle is fast..
No you can't ride it!

I know of an older 900RR with 50,000 miles, the pump wasn't working but didn't effect the bike any. I'm not sure why carbed bikes have pumps, an 83 Magna has a pump but doesn't need it either.

HP is a poor substitute for experience and ability.

I had the pump go bad on an old Datsun 210 station-wagon. The car still ran but poorly, and would stall at lights and stuff.

My bike still runs, but every once in a while it feels like there's an interruption in the fuel flow or something (it lurches a little bit like it momentarily lost power.

The tach also goes to 8000 (no matter the RPM) on a regular basis every 5 seconds. I know this is a self diagnostic thing on my Yamaha, and that it's indicating something wrong with the fuel pump, fuel sender (whatever that is), fuel indicator light, or wiring between all those systems.
