i want an r6...take me into the darkside yami boys! :) how is the reliability with the r6, i know they're still relatively new, but have any of the r6 owners here had any problems? I'd really like to pick one up with cosmetic damage and repaint it, i wanna wind a gear out to 16 k just to watch people stare when i finally come through the town a couple of minutes later:) loud noise approaching can make people stop and stare:) anyway, just wondering

What did I miss? I never have had a recall on my 2000 R1. I think you have the R1 mistaken with that 929 junk! /images/icons/laugh.gif

No no, didn't mean it that way. I don't think there are any recalls from the R1 cause Yamaha didn't adress the reacurring problems. When I was looking for an R1 for myself I kept coming across problems with the bike. Don't get me wrong the R1 has always been a BEAUTIFUL, POWERFUL, great handling bike and that's why I was going to get one. From 1-3000rpm's they develop a loud tick in the top of the motor, even with the valves in spec. Numerous shifter mechs and or bent shift forks have cause probs. The only possible recall was for the clutch basket failures, but it only covered half the bikes affected. Also the oil press. light comes on it's own for a couple of minutes. And now 2 of the 1st 02 models have seized their front wheels w/one case causing an accident a 60-70MPH. Sceptics won't believe me, but, go to 2wf under cycle doctor for the tick and search the web for the other problems, mainly other forums from other R1 owners.
The sad thing is the warranty is suppose to cover this stuff but the dealerships will tell you it's perfectly normal. Don't believe me? Call a Yamaha dealership, tell them you have a R1 that ticks loudly.

As I have an '01 r1, I'm curious about that-- I've never heard of the "loud engine tick", and didn't find anything looking through Cycle Doctor. Besides, 1k-3k is practically worthless on an R1 anyway. Or any other inline four literbike.

The R1 was updated in 2000 and the 01 models are the same. Don't go based on one site, look around. Internet, hangouts, mechanics...
