Honda Racing's Nicky Hayden worked his magic by finishing the 18-lap
600cc Supersport race in an impressive 2nd place finish. The hard
charging Red Rider crashed hard during Superbike qualifying on
Thursday and was under the weather heading into the Supersport final.
Hayden shook off the pain and
soldiered through the pack to take the runner-up position.

"What a fun race," said Nicky Hayden. "We were all going at it hard
running into the chicane on the last lap, and I thought I could get a
really good drive out onto straight-away when Kurtis bobbled and I had
to shut off to avoid hitting him. I'm just happy that I am healthy
enough to race after my crash yesterday."

Honda Racing's Miguel Duhamel was red hot in Daytona and at one point
was leading the race. On the final lap, Jamie Hacking who was initially
awarded 3rd, attempted to draft past Duhamel as the two crossed the
finish line. After the officials reviewed the tape, it showed Duhamel in
front of Hacking by a fraction. Duhamel was awarded 3rd place and the
final podium position.

"I asked the track to review the tape because I knew I had beat him,"
said Miguel Duhamel.

Honda supported Erion Racing's Kurtis Roberts, who won the 2001 Daytona
Supersport event, finished a close 5th place behind Hacking and fellow
Honda rider Duhamel. Roberts' teammates Mike Hale and Roger Hayden
finished 7th and 13th respectively.

"I ran off the track and clipped a hay bayle," said Roger Hayden. "I
actually got airborne and saved it. Once I landed the bike I raced back
on the track and just put my head down."

Bruce Transportation Group's Alex Gobert finished his first race aboard
his Honda CBR600F4i in 16th position. The Australian native is enjoying
his new ride in America.

"It's great to be here in the States," said Gobert. "Everyone at Honda
has been so supportive and I am having a blast."

Gobert's teammate Jake Zemke crashed on lap one, but was able to pick up
his Bruce Transportation Group CBR600F4i and get back into the fray.
Zemke would eventually claim 17th overall.

because the article came from a Honda Press Release. Suzuki doesn't have a very good PR program for their race teams IMO. Honda, Ducati and Aprilia do a great job supply news to us, therefore usually the press releases you read are from them.

So am I, but I got to say. It was not fun seeing how dominating the VTR's were in the top end. They blew by Gobert at will...
