What kind of chain do you guys recommend? Should I get a 520 or stick with the 530 size? I've heard 520 sheds a lot of unsprung weight, but it's not recommend for the R1. I'm just noticing that it's going to be time to replace the chain soon and I'm wondering what I should go with.
Thanks in advance!

I went 520 and I have about 1000 miles on it. Looks like it can go for another 3000 miles or so! /images/icons/smile.gif Just make sure and spend a little extra and get a 520 that has the same tensile strength or even higher, as I did, then our stock 530 chains.

I'm sticking with stock. My chain and sprockets are lasting a LONG time. ( probably because I "baby" my bike so much/images/icons/wink.gif ) I DEFINITELY don't need the front to rise any easier. I figure that the standard chain/sprockets will last about 25K?

Kevap, which chain and sprocket kit did you go with, and how much? Did it make that much of a difference? Thanks for the info Link Master!

I bought mine from Marietta Motorsports down in Georgia. Walked right in and within minutes I was out the door with all my goodies. You can order directly from them at 1-888-fastlap. Check out there website at http://www.1888fastlap.com

I bought a EK 520 premium gold x-link chain. The tensile strength is 8800 lbs. From what I remember when I researched chains... the stock 530 chain on the R1 is around 7500 lbs. I also bought a vortex rear sprocket down 3 teeth from stock. Along with my EBC HH brake pads, and my Factory ignition advancer. I bought everything for $250 or so. ($30 pads, $45 advancer, $45 sprocket, $130 chain)

Can I notice a difference? Well... sort of... Because I installed everything at one time the biggest difference has to come from the new sprocket.

One other note... can a 520 chain handle the power of the R1???? HECK YA! If the 200 HP superbike teams use em... then why can't you use it on our babies!!! /images/icons/smile.gif

Word from a mechanic friend is, if you don't plan to ride passengers a 520 is fine (pref an X-Ring). I Don't know personally but I feel comfortable passing on his recs.

I have a 520 on my R6 and loved the results - hate the life though. I put about 8K on it and its time to replace it.

I used a Regina gold and Vortex sprockets - both brands to stay away from.

I believe I'll try Sprocket Specialists and a DID X ring this time.

I changed my gearing as well - try going up a few teeth in the back, you'll like it.
