Hey guys,
Newbie here. I wanted to say first how great of a site this is. I kinda came upon it by accident. I have been reading many of the previous threads and have found some very good information. Anyway, about a month ago I purchased a near mint 2001 RC51 with 13,000 miles (now 15,000). And I have to say it is the most fun bike that I have ever riden. Basically what I wanted to know was who has the highest mileage RC51 so I kind of know what kind of mileage I can expect from mine. And what if anything has gone wrong with it or what has needed replacing? I dont really care about the mileage for resale value because I will probably run this thing til it dies then probably end up buying another one. I just feel like I am going to rack up miles super quick on this thing since once I get on I just cant get off. I put 2,000 on in less than a month and thats not even riding it everyday. I just dont want to kill it before I am done paying for it! I mean I dont beat mine by any stretch, if anything I kinda baby it too much except when Im hitin the twisties. :waytogo: Thanks in advance guys, any response will be greatly appreciated and hopefully stop me from worrying so much!

Congrats on the new bike. I always liked the look of the RC51...

Can't help you with your RC51 question but my 929 is just fine (after having a short in the main wiring harness) at 40,000km (25,000mi) and I've heard stories of 929's reaching over 200,000km.
22,000 miles on an '03 and the only thing I've replaced is tires, spark plugs, oil, air filter and lots more tires.

fat chance of that... the 51 was designed from the outset to be a race homologation pure and simple. that means it's severly overbuilt for a street bike (feel the weight). it's sole purpose was to spend life as a 180hp works superbike. the stock C/R is wimpy off the floor and your cams are the model of accuracy and precision being gear driven. when you have her built to 175hp...? be sure to check back in with us.

"Bandit"-be sure to get the 16,000 mile valve adjustment/check done and it should run forever.

Thanks for the good info guys! I feel a little better about the whole mileage thing.
Mininsx, I plan on bringing her in to the dealer in the spring for the 16,000 mile checkup. I am thinking at the same time I will get a power commander unit installed since I seem to be running a little lean due to the aftermarkets. Not going to be and inexpensive bill but it will be worth it to have the bike running perfect. I plan on keeping it for a while so I want to make sure everything is in good working order. Thanks again for all your responses everyone and if anyone else has high mileage RCs, I would love to hear about them!
