Has anyone out there adjusted the rear shock on their EX500? (Only the preload is adjustable). According to the Clymer manual you're supposed to take the shock off the bike, adjust it and put it back on. This seems like a big pain in the ass, anyone done it while it's still on the bike? Can anyone think of problems this might cause?

When I tried to adjust mine (back in 95, at the track), the adjuster and the locking ring were so tight against each other that I had to take the shock off the bike to break them free. After that, I was able to adjust it while it was still on the bike. (not sure if it makes a difference, but I had removed the airbox and was running pods -- so I probably had more access to the shock than normal)

I just adjusted mine on my street EX with the stock airbox and had no trouble. It was a pain in theass but I got it done!
