Apart from the obviously different sound.
actually, when you get it up to speed, strangely it doesn't really sound or feel much different than a typical I4...? i read this mentioned in a review elsewhere after the fact and it's true. or at least it's this way with those giant stock pipes muffling things. once it's got a proper akra fitted i'm sure it sings it's sweet V4 staccato at all throttle angles like it does for spies. from off idle to nearly wide open though it's surprisingly very smooth. i got on it expecting vibration, but it never showed. what lil' hint of vibration you feel reminds most of when a typical flat plane I4 is run without balance shafts. MV Agusta 312 popped into mind on the very first pass down the straight.

deep down, the motorcycle industry has a problem we dont talk about at parties...

So, if given the option between a 1198 and a R1 which would you pick?

if you can get past the looks...? the R1. though i'm not thinkin' the new yammy can be counted on to help one score like the V12.

1198 all the way..............The R1 engine is a gimmick. Its slow and heavy..

How did you compare the R1 to the 1198 ? When was your track test on the 1198 and at what track.

I would gladly put my 1198 against that heavy underpowered gimmick R1.
