CBR 600 F4i vs. GSXR 600
Hey, I'm new to the board, just gettin ready to buy my first sportbike. I've been riding motocross for the past 2 years and I've always wanted to have a sportbike. My question is which bike do you guys like better? I've always had Honda's, but Suzuki's GSXR 600 feels really nice. What do you guys prefer? Thanks

Re: CBR 600 F4i vs. GSXR 600
Since you know the basic operations of a bike, you could probably do OK on a new 600. I personally wouldn't recommend one as a first streetbike to anybody because the handling is still going to be a lot different from your motorcross racing bike and I'm sure the power will be a lot greater as well. If you must have a new 600, though, I'd go for the F4i before the Gixxer - I personally consider the F4i to be much more user friendly, rideable bike. You also might check out what one of the other guys posted in a thread down there called "Glad I started on an SV650S". After wrecking my GS500 I am probably going to get an SVS myself. I definitely am not ready to jump to a new 600.
Buy good gear and wear it!

Oh yeah, I'm definetly not skipping out on gear! I understand your points on a smaller bike though, but I think I'll do alright with a 600. I plan on taking the MSF course and really taking it easy at first. Thanks for the advice

Whichever is more comfortable/confidence inspiring to you... the performance differences in the bikes are tiny. Personally the F4i is more comfy to me excepting only the awful seat.

Re: CBR 600 F4i vs. GSXR 600
The gixxer is more powerful but the f4i is an easier bike, still no slouch though. I saw one doing mid 11's on the 1/4 mile not too long ago. Right now I'm commuting on my 600 and honestly I dont like it too much. I wanna trade it for a sv650s, I sat on one and the bike just feels right for me with a way more relaxed riding position. Even the new gixxers seem to have a more relaxed riding position than my dinosaur.

Re: CBR 600 F4i vs. GSXR 600
Ultimately, you should go with whatever is comfortable to you, as most people wont be able to get the full potential out of bikes ridden on the street (the rider makes the difference). A 600 should be fine if you havethe motocross background expierence. Just give yourself a few thousand miles/ few monthe of conservative riding to learn the bike. My first bike was a top of the line 600 back in the day and at times it probably will scare you. Just dont lose the respect for the bike you may learn how heavy it is. and i dospeak from experience.

People said alot of good things about the SV650S, and they are right. I just bought an '03 on Wednesday and already have 75 miles on it. It handles like a dream and is so easy and forgiving to ride. My experience is pretty small and it makes me feel quite comfortable.
What a great bike for a first-timer! :

Re: CBR 600 F4i vs. GSXR 600
I love the SV650S. When I lived in Colorado, I used to have my ass handed to me by a guy(screenname HooptySVS on a SV650S in the twisties Plus they wheelie easier....not that you'd want to wheelie the thing : :
I'd get the F4i, I mean up untill this year, all the gixxers look the same :

Re: CBR 600 F4i vs. GSXR 600
Never ridden a GSX-R but I can say that the F4i as 600 sportbikes go is fairly forgiving. My first, no experience and so far it's let me know it *can* kick my ass but it won't unless it has to. :

Re: CBR 600 F4i vs. GSXR 600
There is a big Difference between those two bikes and anyone who's ridden both will tell you right off the bat that a GSX-R600 is a bonified Race Bike you can ride on the street, and an F4i is a bonofied Street bike you can take to the track.
If your talkin 600RR -vs- GSX-R than thats a much closer descision.
But the F4i's focus is much different than those 2 bikes so that should make the choice easy. :
