Ducati launch one-make 848 race series

This looks very cool. Too bad it's a UK series. This would be a nice substitute for the DMG circus over here.

Ducati say the 848 Challenge will offer participants a unique opportunity racing at some of the best circuits in the UK and abroad with the intention to visit four World Championship circuits that would include Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Misano and Assen. The Misano round will be held during the weekend of the 12th and 13th June where the renowned World Ducati Week takes place - a Ducati festival that is attended by up to 50,000 fans. The Assen Circuit will welcome the 848 Challenge during the biggest amateur race meeting the ‘Ducati Club Races’. Other circuits on the calendar include Cadwell, Castle Coombe, Oulton and Snetterton.

All competitors will use the same model of bike (848/848 Dark) which with the exception of race fairings, tyres and exhausts will remain standard.

Too bad something like this won't get any television coverage. I've caught some of the Ferrari Challenge series races on television and those guys don't putz around no matter how much those cars cost. Same make can make for some very interesting racing.

Wednesday 2pm, this shiny red Ducati 848 was sitting innocently in Moto Rapido Ducati’s showroom in Winchester. One short day later and it’s been transformed into a race bike, ready for round one of the Ducati 848 Challenge at Silverstone on Sunday.

This is going to be my race bike for 2010 in a new team, which is a collaboration between award-winning dealers Ducati Glasgow and Moto Rapido Ducati in Winchester.
