newbie thinking Ducati on track

what's up everyone! i've finally got all my priority done in life (wife, kids, dog, house) Now i'm ready to hop back on. I've always wanted a ducati since i was a kid, but i don't want to ride on the road. I want to get on a track. So should I start off with a Ducati or something else? also, is there somewhere i can find out more about racing on the track? oh. my last bike was a ninja back in the early 90's.

I know Honda has a race version of their CBR250 and a race series.

Ducati is too expensive to purchase and maintain and that's before any "track incidents" arrive in the picture. I'd hit Craigslist and find an early to mid 2000 model 600cc from any of the Japanese big four personally.
