For those of you who do not live in North America where do you think would be the best place to take a motorcycle tour? I'm talking about taking a flight somewhere, renting a bike and going exploring. Take into account things like scenery, roads, places of interest, costs, accomadations etc.

france, switzerland and italy. few cops on countryroads, in italy bikers are like gods (can do what they want), and the scenery and roads are great and in good condition
austria has fine scenery and good roads, but the cops can estimate your speed and will always give you a ticket /wwwthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

i'd really love to go to sardegna or corse, just for the scenery /wwwthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif . i don't know really about the street condition, but it seemed to be mostly fine. and there are really few cops, and the roads are twisty -uuh, these roads will teach you the meaning of the word twisty! /wwwthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Dolomites definitely. Eastern France, northern Italy, Suisse, west part of Austria and southest part of Germany. Gorgeous backroads, full of elevation changes, beautiful countryside... Hard to top.

Australia is great for scenery but unfortunately the two lane roads away from the cities are not always in the best of condition. In remote areas, there is usually only one sealed road or none at all.

Perhaps you have heard of the Australian Great Dividing Range, aka the Australian Alps, aka 'The Man from Snowy River' territory? Perhaps not, but anyway that is the Australian high country straddling the border of Victoria and New South Wales. The road that crosses the highest elevations (actually quite low by world mountain standards) is called the Alpine Way and until only a few years ago it had quite a long stretch of dirt, may 50 or 60 kms. It would be hell on a street bike.
