I've made my decisionakjcat 12-04-2002, 06:30 AM Well I have decided to join the Air Force Reserve. Any suggestions on jobs? existance 12-04-2002, 06:35 AM Cool cool.. I'm | | <--- this close to finalizing a decision on joining the army myself.. time to start researching jobs too  --C NinjaChic 12-04-2002, 07:03 AM Excellent choice on joining. I did 4 years active AF and don't regret a minute of it. Whatever you do, don't become a crew chief. They're basically mechanic wannabe's. The recruiter might also try to convince you to be a cop...don't do it unless it's what you want. Just figure out what you want to do as a career and go from there. What are your interests? What do you really like to do?? Make certain of your decision before heading to basic training. I screwed myself in that area because I only had two job choices and ended up being an inventory manager, aka, box kicker. Hey, at least I was able to do donuts with a forklift. Good luck! holzieaf 12-04-2002, 08:59 AM NDI (nondestructive inspections) great job, easy and good looking girls in our career field ( bonus). Inspect aircraft and aircraft parts, but no HARD manual labor. It rules... you do X-rays, ultrasonics, eddy current, magnetic particle and oil analysis. if you want to know more PM me Oppie1kenopie 12-04-2002, 01:13 PM Ninjachic, as a fellow box kicker I feel I should say that doing donuts on a forklift is an unsafe act. Of course, everything is an unsafe act nowadays  R1LAJA 12-04-2002, 01:24 PM
In reply to:
Whatever you do, don't become a crew chief. They're basically mechanic wannabe's [/ QUOTE ] I have to disagree with you Ninjachic. Last time I checked, not too many people know how to run engines on C-5, C-130, C-17 or any other planes for that matter. Not to mention you get to travel many different places like Europe, and Asia, with your plane, with your name on it. What you call giving advise to akjcat is just here say and it's not entirely accurate. No disrespecting you there Ninjachic. akjcat As a Crew Chief, some of the best time you'll have is with your flight Crew at different TDY locations. Yes, you do work hard, but it's very rewarding. You are flying with the plane you have just fixed. Your entire flight crew's lives are in your hand. Big responsibility. There are many other jobs to choose from but don't limit yourself by not looking into a job you might be interested in because someone simply told you so, and from who never even worked as a Crew Chief. Mechanic wannabe's? /wwwthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Knowing the entire acft systems such as hydraulics, electrical, instrumentation's and it's limits, flight controls, knowing every aspects of flight engineer's station and operation of it's switches, and troubleshooting a multi-million dollar aircraft is not what I call mechanic wannabe. My advise to you akjcat is once you have decided on what your interest is, than narrowed down the job of your choice, than find out all there is to know about that particular job(s). Talk to the individuals who are in that career field if possible, than commit yourself. Military forums such as this is good place to start. Don't let the recruiter make the decisions for you, or let them talk you out of it. BTW, SOME recruiters will only tell you what you want to hear. Remember, they have to make quotas on number of people they bring in, and that means whatever it takes. Tramp4life 12-04-2002, 02:06 PM stay away from Open General. If I wasn't colorblind, I'd go for EO Mother-Fuc*ing D!!! (Demolitions and Disposal)...Ah, to be young and insane again... Welcome to the family... TFL Oppie1kenopie 12-04-2002, 04:03 PM Tramp is right. Get a guaranteed job before you go in. Otherwise they can screw you royally. Unless you like to do minefield tap-dancing, or any other type of abnormal behavior, stay away from the EOD job. Most are so nuts that they are lobotomized upon retirement  akjcat 12-05-2002, 03:46 AM Right now I am still in college, living and supporting myself on my own...no help from anybody. So i was basically looking at jobs that involve the kicker ( that extra 350 a month would be VERY helpful)..or more commonly know as critical career fields. I am looking at Air transport, fuels, or munnitions. Any suggestions and or comments? You might want to check those figures out before you commit. ggunn9 12-05-2002, 06:20 AM STAY AWAY FROM OPEN GENERAL! I was open general and got stuck with Fire fighter. But I retrained into Paralegal. It is so much better. Think about Paralegal. I here loadmaster is good. 70351 12-08-2002, 03:20 AM Join the Naval Reserve. Best of Luck, HSS | |
