actually the FB has less HP than the Ducati 748RS. ProThunder has always been the place that the the non big 4 bikes of this horsepower have always run. The AMA has never wanted their supposedly stock class to be anything but 600cc unlike the WSS which is both stock and open to all comers. There were a lot of other bikes in this class SV650's a Moto Guzzi 1000, some fool on a Sportster 1200 and my personal favorite is M. Ben Welch, on his Yamaha TZF426 which is a the MX 426 engine in a TZ125 chassis (I want one for street). Still to beat the AMS Duc is a nice thing.

Some people don't realize the importance of a Buell victory especially over the seasoned Ducati 748's that race that class. Outstanding job for a bike in it's initial year of production. And as far as the comment about it races in a 750 cc class, keep in mind that older Buells utilized the 1200cc Harley Sportster engine and the Firebolt is substantially smaller in displacement. One other point is that Racing a Buell is akin to slapping a Shadow 1100 engine in a homebuilt frame and going out and racing a Ducati 748 on the track, how do you think you would fare in that race if you rode the Buell. That statement applies more to the engine choice than the frame because Eric Buell knows his business when it comes to frames. Now do you see why it is such a big victory for Buell.
