Street Legal RS 250 GP Replica.....Update

Finally got my title in mail today from the Wisconsin DOT for my RS 250. Thought I would post some pictures to celebrate... It wasn't as dreadful getting plates for it as I was lead to belief. I use it primarily for track days but a couple of spins around the city once in awhile are going to be nice. On my first trip out on the street, it didn't take long to get ripped by a group of die-hard Milwaukee Harley riders. They told me at a stoplight that my RS sounds like a weed-whacker....:

How long did it take? How much did it cost?

Re: Street Legal RS 250 GP Replica.....Update

Phukit,
The total cost of the bike was $5,100. When I got it had 600 miles on it. A older guy traded it in for a Duc 999 at a dealership in Indianapolis. I drove down to indy to get after finding it on cycletrader.com. Towed it back and have been sitting on the title since March. The DOT is pretty tolerant here in Wisconsin (Harley country) so I guess I am lucky. I guess I can thank Harley-Davison for lobbing to keep motorcycle laws liberal in Wisconsin. I think I would have had a big problem in other states getting plates for it. The big thing is to obtain a seventeen digit vin for the bike. All off road use motorcycles have a 15 digit vin #. So you have to make a 17 digit # by having it signed off or the registration system doesnít recognize the vin # as valid. I have full coverage insurance for it through State Farm. Since it only 250cc it not classified as a Supersport by State Farm and only cost $12 per month :

XXVFR,
The headlight kit is home made. It mounted using the 2 top mount bolts in the front fairing. The headlight and taillights are spliced into the 12 V wiring harness. They turn on and off with the key switch. The headlights also are useful to light up the dash at night since the rs 250 replica models don't have backlighting on the instruments panel. I can remove the headlights in about 30 seconds with 2 Bolts and a wire clip to take the assembly off for track use. :
