Holy Crap! Hond RCV 1000 Streetbike

Breaking news.......

Well atleast I hope this is breaking news, not sure if someone already posted this on here. Ok so me any cousin from england are on the phone having a conversation about bikes, and I mention to him that I am saving my money for next year to buy a Ducati. Now the reason I am doing that is because I am hoping that Ducati will finally release a true follow up the the original 916 (the 999 and 749 were built to part fools from thier money) My thinking is that they have a V4 machine in Moto GP and that they will follow with a street version soon, and the rumors on the net seemed to confirm that. So ducati will finally switch over from V-Twins to new 4 bangers and blow all the jap bikes out of the water like the original 916 did. How wrong I was......

This is when my cousin asks me if I have heard about the RCV 1000 yet. The RCV what???? The only RCV I know of is the RCV211 that Valentino Rossi rides. Well turns out my cuz saw a new bike honda was working on, on a bike TV show over in England. Dig this RCV 1000 990 cc Fuel Injected V-5 pumpin out 160bhp and a frame borrowed from RCV211 itself!!!!!!!! My god I think this thing is gonna be a monster, Ducati better have an answer for this!

Did some research on the net dug up some pics

Re: Holy Crap! Hond RCV 1000 Streetbike

While I may not be the first to want to jump on to total liter bikes, I gotta say

WOW

An actual STREET version of the RC211 itself! The 2 pipes, the 5 cylinder! This is awesome indeed! :

This is going to make the people who went and blew their wad on the 600RR a bit flustered though, since the RR only borrowed technology from the RC211, it wasn't an actual RC211 in street mode....

When is the release date supposed to be? (I'd guess 3 years or so)

Key words: [ QUOTE ]
Of course Japan and us could have just made all of this stuff up

[/ QUOTE ] My personal opinion is the V5 is another year out but there could be a surprise this fall. However NOBODY will know anything official until this fall at the dealer shows. Anything before taht is just rumor and supposition.

Re: Holy Crap! Hond RCV 1000 Streetbike

I gotta ask the question though. Why make a street version of the V5?. Have they reached the limits of development on the 954?, doubt it. Are the VFR/Interceptor guys crying for more power?, maybe, but thats not the best way to give it to them. Do they need street/customer bikes for homologation?, not at all.

It just doesn't make any sense to develop the V5 for the street, even if Honda has the deep pockets to do it if they want to.

Can you imagine paying for the valve adjustment on that thing? Suddenly a 999 would seem like an economical commuter :

I'll bet that its going to be a $25k+ RC45 type limited production exotic.

Drool at the prospect, but those two pipes seem awkward at BEST. :

Photoshop and conjecture, my friends....

Photoshop and conjecture.

Re: Holy Crap! Hond RCV 1000 Streetbike

the valve adjustment would be the usual 16k shim under bucket.

only ducati uses the weird rocker assembly for lift and return. everyone else uses valve springs and shims.
